Erde trailer extension side panels

Erde make extension side panels for the 143 model trailer and above. Extension side panels double the height of your trailer, giving your trailer twice the normal capacity. To further increase your trailers capacity and for added security, a hardtop cover can also be fitted after the sides have been extended. All other available accessories will also still fit after the sides have been extended.

Bad features of Erde extension side panels include:

Erde motorcycle handlebar straps

Erde motorcycle wheel clamp

Erde supply an adjustable motorcycle front wheel clamp that is compatible with all of their bike trailers. This clamp can be used by its self or it can be fixed into the bike rails of any Erde motorcycle trailer.

To fit this on an Erde bike trailer you must remove the legs from the clamp and remove the wheel hoop from the end of the trailers bike rail. The clamp should now fit tightly into the rail ready to be bolted down. If the original holes in the trailer do not match up with the clamp you may have to drill new ones in order to fit the clamp securely.

This clamp will support the weight of your bike while the trailer is stationary, but it is highly recommended that you also secure the bike with straps before beginning your journey.

Erde motorcycle trailer ramps

There is a selection of accessories available for Erde’s motorcycle trailer range. The most popular is the motorcycle loading ramp as none of Erde’s trailers are supplied with one. Loading ramps are essential for operating a bike trailer.

Loading ramps are available in 1m steel or 1.5m aluminum plate.

We find that the 1.5m aluminium ramp is far more popular despite the extra cost due to the additional length giving a shallower loading angle. The steel ramp has folded edges that can catch fairings on some sports bikes. The aluminium ramp is also much better to store as it comes with brackets to secure it to the trailer.

Erde 194 trailer specification

The Erde 194 is one of the largest trailers in Erde’s ‘leisure’ range. It features a straight drawbar, 13″ wheels, and fully galvanised box and chassis. This trailer is well suited for camping trips and light waste removal.

Erde trailer shock absorbers

Erde make a range of shock absorbers to fit their range of trailers (excluding the 102 model). Shock absorbers are designed to dampen the movement of the suspension arm. A trailer with shock absorbers will have less strain on its axle, which will give a smoother ride and increase the trailers life. These shock absorbers are supplied with all the fixtures and fittings needed to install them.

Good features of Erde shock absorbers:

• They give your trailer a smoother ride when it is loaded with goods
• The smoother ride increases the life of trailer parts
• The trailers load is bounced around less when loaded near to its capacity

Bad features of Erde shock absorbers:

• They are not available for all models of trailer
• They can be expensive
• Rubber torsion suspension really should not need to be dampened
• May cause the trailer to bounce more when empty

Shock absorbers are accessories that not every trailer owner will agree on. It depends on what your trailer is carrying and what terrain you are towing on. For regular road use, towing loads like garden waste ect. your trailers standard rubber torsion suspension should easily be sufficient.

Erde lightweight jockey wheels

All Erde trailers can be equipped with a jockey wheel. Installing a jockey wheel on your trailer will mean that you will no longer have to bend down and lift the coupling as far to get it onto the tow ball. A jockey wheel will also make moving an un-hitched trailer by hand much easier, and it will keep your trailer level so it can be loaded while un-hitched.

Erde supply two types of jockey wheel. This type is a standard wheel that is designed to support the weight of any model of Erde trailer with a straight draw bar (i.e. the ‘leisure’ range). This type of jockey wheel mounts to the drawbar by a light weight bracket that fastens around the drawbar with large U-shaped bolts.

Good features of a jockey wheel include:

• Makes your trailer more manageable when moving it by hand
• You no longer have to bend down and lift the coupling as far to hitch it
• Keeps your trailer horizontal when in storage

Bad features of a jockey wheel include:

• They can be expensive, especially heavy duty models
• Some people forget about jockey wheels and don’t wind them in before driving off, wearing out an expensive wheel in minuets
